Established in 2014, Karrke is the Aboriginal name, in the Aranda language, for the western Bowerbird. This bird can be found in this area of Watarrka (Kings Canyon National Park) and Central Australia.

The male bird, with a vibrant pink plume atop its head, artfully decorates its bower with a delightful array of berries, flowers, and glistening trinkets, all in effort to captivate the attention of a potential female bird of its kind. When selecting a symbol and name for our business, we carefully considered this bird can metaphorically carry our visitors away, allowing them to share their extraordinary experiences with friends and family to entice them to explore the enchanting realm of WATARRKA and surrounds.

"Just brilliant! It was wonderful to learn from Peter and Natasha about their lives and traditional aboriginal lives including foods, customs, art, hunting and more. I admire their commitment to help others understand aboriginal culture… in this part of Australia. Their attention to detail, timing and presentation was excellent. Even my teens found it very interesting."
